Studio Mantra for Winter 2026 - GAYATRI MANTRA

May we meditate upon and be inspired by the divine Light of the Supreme Being, Creator of the Universe. May this light illuminate our path.

In Sanskrit

Om Bhur Bhuva Svah

Tat Savitur Varenyam

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi

Dhiyo Yonah Prachodayat

The vertical bars represent pauses.  The syllables in superscript mean to go up a half-step; the syllables in subscript mean to go down a whole step.

Appearing in the Rig Veda from 2500 or so years ago — maybe even more — the Gayatri Mantra is considered the Mother of all Mantras, initially accessible only to the Brahmin class. Today, it is chanted by all. Like many mantras, this one is chanted 108 times, usually at sunrise, midday or sunset.

Here's a simple way to chant the Gayatri Mantra (you have to get past the ads)

If you’re interested in the correct way of chanting it. (see adjacent panel for chanting guide)

To enjoy it as a song.

Deva Premal’s song version of the Gayatri Mantra (which has millions of listens) can be found in Spotify as well.
