January Theme - Asana - (Pose/Seat)

The studio theme directs our attention to the physical body, underscoring the importance of finding our seat and grounding.

Asana is one of the first disciplines outlined in Patanjali’s 8 limbs of yoga, which establishes the human body as the foundational instrument to reach higher consciousness.

During these unprecedented times in history when the sweeping Internet culture and AI alter our perception of the world and ourselves, the act of coming home to your body is a necessity.

By focusing on your seat, you connect with your body and the ground beneath it. This is a simple practice that — like breath awareness — disengages the mind’s preoccupation with its contents and rumination.

One way (out of many) that this can be done: As you prepare for your practice, come to your seat and take a few moments to notice as many things as possible about your seat — your legs, your hips, the weight of your body against the floor, etc.

From there, you can focus on your breath, and continue on with your usual practice.
