YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga is a way to build resilience and vitality in to the tendons, ligaments, fascia, and all connective tissues in general. It is similar to Restorative Yoga in that low intensity poses are held for longer periods of time, but that is where the similarity ends. Yin Yoga can be a bit more intense than Restorative Yoga because the purpose is not primarily relaxation. The goal is to get into a pose and relax as much as possible, within the limits of safety, so that a small load can be placed on the connective tissues—just enough to start building in more resilience. You will be encouraged to listen to the signals from your own body to let you know when the load is too much on the tissues—in which case the instructor will provide alternatives for how to add in extra props and structure to keep your body safe and happy while the resilience builds in slowly. Yin Yoga also provides an excellent opportunity for introspection and meditation. It is like an extended body/mind meditation session—where you are encouraged to stay right in tune with your breath and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual experience.
